Inside-the-Box or Outside-the Box Solution?

The Problem…Wrong-way collisions on highways caused by drivers mistakenly entering an exit ramp.

The Inside-the-box solution (a variation of the Status Quo)…Key preventative measures include: installing highly visible signage with clear directional arrows, utilizing reflective pavement markings specifically designed for wrong-way detection, strategically placing “Do Not Enter” signs with flashing lights, and implementing advanced detection systems that alert authorities when a vehicle enters the wrong-way; all while considering factors like ramp design, lighting, and driver visibility at night.

Key Strategies

Signage and  markings.

* Advanced detection systems.

* Ramp design considerations.

* Driver education and awareness campaigns.

The outside-the-box solution (Common Sense)…Stop the car and close the exit.

Key Strategies

* Using existing technologies (Ref. Post #45 )…Stop the car and alert highway travelers that the exit is temporally closed!
