” Lead pipes in drinking water systems must be replaced within 10 years, according to a new Environmental Protection Agency rule. The agency is also releasing $2.6 billion in funding from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law to help states and localities make the transition, as well as lowering the the limit of Led allowed in drinking water from 15 parts per billion to 10 parts per billion. Roughly 9 million homes still receive water from Lead service lines, with Lead accounting for 9% of service line infrastructure. Still the largest source of exposure in the U.S., Lead exposure is considered particularly harmful to children; irreversibly damaging both mental and physical development. Adults, meanwhile, can experience high blood pressure. heart disease, kidney problems and cancer.”
* During the 1970s scientists discovered the dangerous consequences low dosages of Lead pose to health, particularly for children. Here are some questions the families of loved ones, who have died because of Lead in the water supply, would like the Members of Congress to answer.
1. Why is it taking so long (i.e., 1970s to 2024…54 years) to reduce Lead in our water systems?
2. Why do you need 10 years and $2.6 billion to bring the allowable Lead content in water to 10 parts per billion?
3. Why aren’t we shooting for zero parts per billion?
4. When will you realize that in order to compete in a global economy fueled by Super Technology, we need a superbly educated and healthy Workforce?
5. When will you stop putting party and profit ahead of country and people?
6. If you knew in advance that a loved one was going to die because of a Lead induced medical condition, would you support a bill that called for elimination of Lead in our water supply?
