Aviation Problems-2025
Ref. The Kiplinger Letter…Vol. 102 No. 22
* America’s air traffic control system won’t be fixed quickly, despite the plan proposed by Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy. Duffy wants to replace and upgrade antiquated equipment, a welcome move, but it will take three years at least. Moreover, Congress frequently fails to appropriate funds for such efforts. Recent problems at Newark’s airport may make a crucial difference this time.
* Labor issues can’t be easily resolved, despite assurances by the FAA (Federal Aviation Administration). Controller staffing remains 3,000 people below target, forcing current controllers to work 60-hour weeks. Even if the FAA throws money at the problem, the entire hiring and training process can take up to seven years.
